Ten days before he died at the age of 83 on Sept. 30, 2024,  Pete Rose said he believed "that I'll make the Hall of Fame after I die."

On February 28, 2025, President Donald Trump said he would issue a posthumous pardon to Rose, saying "shouldn't have been gambling on baseball, but only bet on HIS TEAM WINNING." The President then said he would issue the pardon in the next few weeks. 

Assuming he gets pardoned, will Major League Baseball ever accept Rose into its glorious Hall of Fame fraternity? 

In the pages of baseball history, few names shine as brightly as Rickey Henderson. Known for his electrifying speed, unparalleled base-stealing ability, and longevity in the game, Henderson's career spanned over two decades, leaving an indelible mark on the sport. From his record-breaking achievements to his colorful personality, Rickey Henderson was one of my favorite players as a kid. 

We talk all the time about the greatest players, coaches, leaders, etc. What is considered great to one person may not be to another. The experience of life for all us is based on what we actually experience, with no two people being alike. If you watch the top twenty major league baseball players over a season, your framework for greatness may be different than the person watching high school games on Friday nights. ​

When I hear the phrase "tell all," I imagine a recap show of a drama series on Bravo. While some athlete tell-alls are exactly that, others have no intention of throwing shade at other people. Rather, they are look backs straight from the source on what happened, why it happened, and often other details that nobody else would know. 

It's for that reason that these books typically fall into one of those two categories. Some people want and love the drama; others just want the facts straight from the horse's mouth. Regardless of which camp you're in, I'm confident you'll find some of each in the list below. From inspirational sports memoirs to behind-the-scenes looks at critical games or matches, you may have a different perspective on history following some of these reads.

Today, we take a look at the best sports books for kids. Some of these books are based on real people, such as superstars like Steph Curry and LeBron James, while others are fictional in nature. Some tell stories about overcoming the odds, while others provide a more holistic look at the subjects' own journey to self-discovery.

As a parent to young kids, I've read plenty of books where the content is questionable or the storylines lose my daughters' attention after a page or two. The goal for this list to move beyond that and identify books that are both interesting to read and have takeaways that you support as a parent.
