Which 12 NFL Teams Have Never Won a Super Bowl?

Titans vs Texans NFL Football game in Houston
The NFL is one of the most popular sports leagues in the world, and the Super Bowl is one of the most watched sporting events of the year. But what about the teams that have never won a Super Bowl? There are 12 teams that have never won the big game, and each one has its own story.

The 12

The Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns are one of the most storied franchises in NFL history, but they have never won a Super Bowl. The Browns were founded in 1946, and they won four NFL championships before the Super Bowl era began in 1967. The Browns have made the playoffs 14 times since then, but they have never been able to get over the hump. The franchise paid Deshaun Watson a boatload of money in hopes of reversing its fortunes.

The Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are another team with a long history of futility. The Lions were founded in 1930, and they have never won a championship in any league. The Lions have made the playoffs 12 times since the Super Bowl era began, but they have never been able to get to the Super Bowl. Coach Dan Campbell has made steady progress in Detroit, and the Lions continue to assemble a talented roster through the draft. With Aaron Rodgers out of the NFC North, Detroit should contend for the 2023 conference title.

The Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are the newest team on this list. The Texans were founded in 2002, and they have made the playoffs four times since then. The Texans have never been able to get past the divisional round, but they are still a young team with a lot of potential. CJ Stroud should take the ball from day one, and new coach DeMeco Ryans knows how to coach defense. In my opinion, the Texans still lack the overall talent to be a contender.

The Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars are another young team that has never won a Super Bowl. The Jaguars were founded in 1995, and they have made the playoffs six times since then. The Jaguars have made it to the AFC Championship Game twice, but they have never been able to get to the Super Bowl. Trevor Lawrence turned a corner last year and clicked with Doug Pederson. There are bright days ahead in Jacksonville.

The Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals are a team with a long history of playoff disappointment. The Bengals were founded in 1968, and they have made the playoffs 18 times since then. The Bengals have made it to the Super Bowl twice, but they have lost both times. Joe Burrow is a franchise quarterback, and Ja'Marr Chase is a superstar. The Bengals will continue to build around those two.

The Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are the most successful team on this list without a Super Bowl win. The Bills made it to the Super Bowl four straight years from 1991 to 1994, but they lost all four times. The Bills have made the playoffs eight times since then, but they have never been able to get back to the Super Bowl. Josh Allen is a franchise quarterback who will continue to develop. I like the Bills as the team on this list to be the first to win one.

The Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings are another team with a long history of playoff disappointment. The Vikings were founded in 1961, and they have made the playoffs 20 times since then. The Vikings have made it to the Super Bowl four times, but they have lost all four times. Justin Jefferson is an absolute stud, and Kirk Cousins has been incredibly consistent during the regular season. Come the playoffs, though, Captain Kirk hasn't played his best football, and Minnesota hasn't had the depth to advance.

The Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons are a team with a lot of potential, but they have never been able to get over the hump. The Falcons were founded in 1966, and they have made the playoffs 10 times since then. The Falcons have made it to the Super Bowl once, but they lost in 2017 to New England. Desmond Ridder takes over at quarterback, and Bijon Robinson should contribute immediately. I like this team, but they're a couple years away from being serious contenders.

The Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are a young team that has made a lot of noise in recent years. The Panthers were founded in 1995, and they have made the playoffs six times since then. The Panthers have made it to the Super Bowl once, but they lost in 2003. The Bryce Young era should begin right away, and while team executive will try to temper expectations, the reality is that he'll be scrutinized from the jump (especially in comparison to the other quarterbacks that Carolina passed on).

The Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals are a team with a long history of futility. The Cardinals were founded in 1898, and they have never won a championship in any league. The Cardinals have made the playoffs 11 times since the Super Bowl era began, but they have never been to the Super Bowl. The Kliff Kingsbury era is over, and new coach Jonathan Gannon takes over. Can Kyler Murray return to 2021 form?

The Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans are a team with a long history of relocation. The Titans were founded in 1960 as the Houston Oilers, and they moved to Tennessee in 1997. The Titans have made the playoffs eight times since then, but they have never been to the Super Bowl. With Malik Willis last year and now Will Levis, it will be interesting to see if those two get many reps this year behind starter, Ryan Tannehill. Derrick Henry is a beast, but we may start to see a bit of rebuilding down in a Nashville, especially if the Titans get off to a slow start.

Final Thoughts

Buffalo and Cincinnati have been on the brink but failed to get over the hump the past few seasons. Detroit has certainly turned the tide, and I'm bullish on Dan Campbell. What will the future bring? Only time will tell.
